The Facts
In the United States, one in 7,700 women will develop ovarian cancer every year. In the United States, more women die from ovarian cancer than all other gynecologic cancers combined, including cervical and endometrial (uterine) cancers. Ovarian cancer remains difficult to detect. Although the five-year survival rate is approximately 95% when ovarian cancer is detected in its earliest stages, 70% of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage where five-year survival is 15% to 20% at best. Currently, no reliable screening test exists for ovarian cancer.
