Symptoms and Complications

Symptoms of oral cancer are usually noticed early. They include:

  • chronic sore throat
  • ear or jaw pain
  • lump in the lip, tongue or neck
  • mouth ulcers or sores that do not heal within two weeks
  • sores or bumps that look like warts on the lips
  • toothache or loose teeth
  • trouble chewing, swallowing or speaking
  • unexplained bleeding in the mouth

Other medical problems besides oral cancer can cause these symptoms. It is important to see your doctor or dentist if you notice any of the symptoms listed above.

Red or white patches in the mouth may be a pre-cancer sign and should be checked by a dentist or doctor.
